Future Ready: GCSE Pathway

Sally's Story

Sally H. was a strong GCSE student at a secondary school near London. Maths was her strongest GCSE subject, while her interests and talents were clearest in Psychology and other social-science topics. Unsure whether she might study Computing or Law at university, she chose A-level Maths, Psychology and English Language to try to keep both options open.

She achieved A* grades in Psychology and English Language, but a C in Maths. The C did not meet the Maths requirement for her preferred Computing course. Her results did not meet the specific conditions of her AAA offer. Sally is now sure she wants to study Law, but feels caught by her Maths result: to meet that particular course’s offer, she may need to resit Maths and raise her grade to at least an A. She worries that if she cannot do this, she may have to delay or reconsider her preferred choice.

Sally wishes she had thought earlier about whether Maths was the right subject for her, and about other A-levels that might have suited her interests better such as Business, Economics or English Literature. She could then have considered the trade-off more clearly: choosing subjects she felt more drawn to might have supported her Law plans, while possibly narrowing her Computing options.

Sally did not make a careless choice. She was confused and uncertain, and wanted to keep her options open. She did not yet have a clear way to examine her interests, abilities and areas of difficulty, or to compare those with the subjects and grades required for the courses she was considering.

How Future Ready GCSE helps

Future Ready GCSE gives students a structured way to think about their interests, skills, capabilities and areas for development before they choose their A-levels. During the training, students learn practical ways to explore their interests, recognise their strengths and research possible university courses. Over the following months, they are encouraged to continue applying these approaches independently through reflection, practical activities and feedback. They also learn to use AI thoughtfully to explore questions and improve their thinking, while checking important course information against reliable sources.

The programme is not designed to give students an immediate answer or predict which course will make them successful. It helps them see their options more clearly over time, weigh the trade-offs, and make an informed choice they can explain. The aim is to reduce avoidable delays and costs caused by choices made without enough information.

Accuracy note: Maths would matter for Law in Sally’s example because her preferred course required AAA overall, not because Law generally requires A-level Maths. Law course requirements vary; students should check each university’s current requirements.

GCSE Pathway Fee

Our 2026 fee for the Future Ready GCSE Pathway is £480 including VAT, covering six hours of one-to-one online training. Through guided reflection, practical activities and thoughtful use of AI, students learn to explore their interests, recognise their strengths, identify areas for development and make better-informed choices about their future. The programme equips students with tools and approaches they can continue using and practising beyond the sessions.
